Dan & Lorna Dauw Elected Co-President
of MCB
On July 29th, MCB President Arnold Taube
reluctantly retired due to the anticipated demands of the Geneseo
Kiwanis Club Presidency during 2010. Dan and Lorna Dauw
were elected to replace Arnie at the 2009 End of Season Pizza
Party. Please wish Dan and Lorna well in their new role!
Their leadership will be appreciated by all. Best wishes to
Dan and Lorna
for their MCB
Presidency!
MCB July 28th Concert Recorded
The "Wild West" themed concert on July 28th
was recorded. Highlights of the concert included the
performance of long-time band member Joe Glattly's "Hoe-down Polka",
featuring an outstanding solo clarinet performance by Mardian
Angelo, and Joe's conducting of JP Sousa's "Stars and Stripes
Forever". Contact Arnie Taube if you want to buy a copy.
A strictly limited number of CDs of the concert will
be available at
cost.
MCB Radio
Sponsor Missing!
The previously announced and wildly
anticipated premier of MCB concerts on the radio did not occur
during 2009. Unfortunately, the recession caused the program's
sponsor to back-out of the agreement. Maybe the economy will improve
sufficiently to enable the concerts to be broadcast during
the 2010 concert
season.
MCB on the Air!
Starting with the 2009 concert season the
local Regional Radio Group asked for permission to record and
broadcast this summer's Tuesday evening concerts! The
concerts should be found on WYEC 93.9 FM during Sunday
mornings. Check local listings or E-mail WYEC at wyec939@randyradio.com
. Check out the WYEC website at: http://www.wyec.com/

Marsha Kuriger Elected VP & Mardian
Angelo Elected to Band Board
On Saturday, January 31st, 2009, Maple City Band's Board of
Directors elected Marsha Kuriger to the office of Vice President and
Mardian Angelo to the band's board membership. As long-time
members of Maple City Band, both should provide active and
knowledgeable leadership. Marsha replaces Julie Buzard
who resigned due to increased commitments to family and home.
Hopefully Julie will still be able to play with the band but she
will be missed by the band's leadership team. Please
welcome Marsha and Mardian to their new roles with the
band!

Elected to Band Board
On Friday, August 31st, 2007, Maple City Band's Board elected Victor
Bianchetta and Meredith McNaught to board membership. Based on
their long years of music leadership in Geneseo and activity in
Maple City Band, both should provide strong and wise leadership to

Anthony Hernandez Debuts as Maple City
Band Associate-Director
On Tuesday, August 7th, 2007, Geneseo High School Concert Band
Director, Tony Hernandez debuted as as Maple City Band's
associate-director. Tony really "pushed the envelope",
programming and conducting the concert in an authentic, John Philip
Sousa style! Numerous, rapid enchores, dramatic dynamic
changes, a "Humorescapade" novelty number and another, super guest
soloist (Terry Smith on Saxophone) were its crowd-pleasing
features. MCB congratulates Tony on directing and conducting a
great concert and looks forward to a great and long relationship
with Tony!
Alan Kiser Debuts as Maple City Band
Director
On Tuesday, June 5th, 2007, long-time
percussionist and band member (20 years), Alan Kiser debuted as Maple City Band's
director. Alan did a fine job, programming and announcing a
wedding related, theme concert based on the tradition of "something
old, new, borrowed and blue" for brides. In addition, Alan
programmed his brother and tuba player, Dr. Brian Kiser, was the
featured soloist and Brian's fiance, Candice Clayton, enhanced the
clarinet section. MCB congratulates Alan on organizing and conducting
an outstanding concert and wishes Alan a long and productive
term as MCB's director.
Dale Lodge Passes Away
On March 23, 2007 Maple City Band lost Dale Lodge. Dale was
an active member of the Band's Board and long-time band
member, first joining the band in 1936. Dale was
someone special. A founder of the band's endowment
fund and the Maple City German
Band, Dale was also instrumental in starting the
annual Independence Day Ice Cream Social and Pork Fry in the City
Park. When Dale was no longer able to perform with us, he
continued to attend both practices and concerts. Dale was a
true supporter of Geneseo and will be missed by all.

Richard Stodd Retires As MCB Director
Rich
retired in August after serving for
twenty years as director of
the Maple City Band. Earlier
this year Rich retired from the Geneseo School System. He will be
sorely missed. I am certain everyone wishes Rich well in his
new role as Business Manager of the Quad Cities Symphony
and everyone wishes him a long and happy retirement.
MCB Celebrates Its Centennial Season
Maple City Band
celebrated one hundred years of making music and serving the
community. In honor of the occasion, MCB commissioned an original
composition from noted composer James Curnow. MCB premiered the
piece, with Mr. Curnow directing, at the July 4th concert. "Spirit
of the Pioneers" promises to become a standard in the band's
repertoire. In addition, the band introduced program covers for its
concerts, new uniform shirts for band members and a new banner for
display during concerts. Finally, the band programmed one concert
typical of a performance around 1906. The City of Geneseo
marked the occasion by adding a commemorative plaque to the City
Park Band Shell.
